Bonus bets

Read any bonus bet offer and know what to do with it: which kind it is, when it expires, what odds it allows, and what a good result looks like.

What a bonus bet is

Betting credit from a sportsbook. If it wins you get the winnings as cash; if it loses you lose nothing of your own. The bonus amount never comes back: a $100 bonus bet at +200 pays $200, not the $300 a cash bet would.

Books also call it a free bet or free play. Use it on an underdog at the book that gave it, bet the other side with cash at a second book, and keep about the same whoever wins. That is a conversion.

The kinds you will be handed

The wording tells you which kind you have and which Odds Screen view works it.

Tokens: one offer, several bets

A $150 offer often lands as several smaller bonus bets, for example three $50 tokens a week apart. Find them in the book's Promotions or Rewards area and on the bet slip. Convert each token as its own pair, sized to that token, and log them in Bankroll under “Free Bet Bonus” when they land.

Watch out: switch the token on in the bet slip before you confirm. A grey toggle means the bet uses your cash. After placing, check that your cash balance did not move.

Expiry

Bonus bets often expire 7 days after they land, and an expired one is worth nothing. Convert each one the day it arrives or within a day or two, soonest expiry first. If nothing converts above 50% today, waiting a day is fine.

Odds caps

Some books cap the odds a bonus bet can be placed at, for example +150; the terms or the slip tell you the cap. BreadSync does not apply it for you on US books, so type it into Max Odds on the Free Bet view, and expect about 50 to 55% instead of 60% or more.

When the first bet has to win

Some bet-and-get offers pay only if your qualifying bet wins. “Win or lose” and “if your bet wins” are different offers, so read that line twice.

For a win-required offer, bet the small amount it asks for on the heaviest favorite the terms allow; with no minimum odds, a live favorite around -2000 is common. You are buying the bonus, not the win. It can still lose, which costs the stake and the bonus.

What a good conversion looks like

Conversion is the share of the bonus you keep as cash, and the bonus bet's price decides most of it. One $100 bonus bet, hedged with cash at a second book:

Bonus bet atOther sideCash to betYou keep
+110-130$62$48 (48%)
+150-170$94$56 (56%)
+250-300$188$63 (63%)
+350-450$286$64 (64%)
  • Under 50%: skip it, or wait a day.
  • 50 to 55%: worth taking; normal under an odds cap.
  • 55 to 60%: good.
  • 60% or more: strong, usually an underdog around +250 to +400.

The Free Bet view colors rows to match: green at 60% and up, amber from 50%, red below. Longer prices keep more but need more cash on the other side, so take the best row whose hedge you can fund today.

House rules

  • Bonus bet against cash, never against another bonus bet, which keeps far less.
  • Straight bets on one game. No parlays, even when the book allows them.
  • Moneylines by default. Where the book allows bonus bets on them, spreads and run lines at ±0.5 or ±1.5 work too. A whole number can push, and some books keep a pushed bonus bet; if that happens, ask support for it back the same day.
