Free bet calculator (bonus bet converter)
A free bet, which most US sportsbooks now call a bonus bet, pays out your winnings but not the stake. Hedging it on the other side at a second book turns it into cash whoever wins. This calculator sizes that hedge and shows how much of the free bet you keep, known as the conversion rate.
Because the stake never comes back, free bets convert best at longer odds. An even-money free bet hedged at even money keeps 50%. The same $100 at +300, hedged at -350, keeps 66.7%.

How to use the free bet calculator
- 1Enter the free bet odds in the Free Bet column and the price on the other side at your hedge book in the Hedge column.
- 2Enter the free bet amount as the Free Bet stake. The hedge stake fills in automatically. You can type a hedge stake instead if your balance at the hedge book is the limit.
- 3If either bet has a profit boost, enter the boost percentage in the Boost row. It raises the winnings, not the stake.
- 4Place both bets. Total Profit is what you keep either way, and Conversion % is that profit as a share of the free bet.
Worked example: a $100 free bet at +300
You have a $100 free bet. You place it at +300 and hedge the other side at -350 at a second sportsbook.
- Free bet winnings (stake not returned)
- $300.00
- Hedge stake at -350
- $233.33
- Hedge payout if it wins
- $300.00
- Profit either way
- $66.67
- Conversion rate
- 66.7%
If the free bet wins you collect $300.00 and lose the $233.33 hedge, leaving $66.67. If the hedge wins it returns $300.00 on $233.33 staked, also $66.67. The $100 free bet became $66.67 in cash.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good free bet conversion rate?
Around 70% is a strong conversion. An even-money free bet hedged at even money gives exactly 50%, so treat that as the floor and look for longer odds with a tight hedge on the other side.
Why do free bets convert better at long odds?
The stake is never returned, so the only value is in the winnings. A $100 free bet at -200 wins $50 at most, so it cannot convert above 50%. At +300 it wins $300, and hedged at -350 it converts at 66.7%.
Where should I place the hedge?
At whichever sportsbook has the best price on the other side. That is usually a different book from the one that issued the free bet, and a better hedge price raises the conversion directly.
Is a bonus bet the same as a free bet?
Yes. US sportsbooks mostly say bonus bet now, but the mechanics are the same: the winnings are paid and the stake is not. Offers such as a second chance bet also pay out as bonus bets, which you then convert here.
What does the Boost row do?
It applies a profit boost to that leg. A 50% boost on +300 raises the winnings by half, to +450. Leave it at 0 for a plain free bet.
