Which bet do you place first when hedging a bonus bet?

The short answer

For a bonus conversion, prepare both slips first, then place the bonus bet and confirm its accepted receipt before placing the cash hedge. The bonus has extra eligibility restrictions. Placing cash first can leave an uncovered cash bet if the token is rejected.

Before placing either bet

  • Match the event, market, period, and exact line. Check that the outcomes are genuinely opposite.
  • Read the settlement rules, including draws, overtime, postponements, and player participation where relevant.
  • Select the bonus token and check its restrictions.
  • Have enough available cash at the hedge book and confirm that price and stake are currently offered.

Use the receipt, not the planned stake

After the bonus bet is accepted, record the actual odds, stake, and funding type. A slip showing your intended bet is not an acceptance receipt.

Recheck the hedge odds and calculate from the accepted bonus ticket. If a stake was reduced or the price moved, the original hedge amount may be wrong. Confirm the second receipt too. A saved entry in a tracker does not place a sportsbook bet.

Bet order does not remove execution risk

The second bet can still be rejected, changed, or suspended. Both being visible on your screen does not reserve either price.

If a screen freezes or says processing, check open bets before retrying. An unclear response can still mean a bet was accepted. Do not wait for the game to improve the hedge price; until the opposite bet is confirmed, you still have one exposed side.

The takeaway

Prepare both. Confirm the bonus receipt. Recalculate if needed. Then confirm the cash receipt.
