What happens if one side of your hedge is voided?

The short answer

The original hedge may no longer protect you. A void cancels a ticket under the sportsbook's rules; it does not automatically cancel the opposite ticket elsewhere. Check both receipts and the reason for settlement before placing anything else.

A void and a push are not the same event

For example, a total of 44 that finishes at 44 is a push. A cancellation for a postponed event or a participation rule is a different situation. A sportsbook may display similar labels, but the cause matters.

What a one-sided void can cost

Suppose you placed two $100 cash bets. One is voided and its $100 stake comes back. If the other stays valid and loses, the overall result is a $100 loss. Returning one stake is not the same as returning both.

For a bonus bet, check whether the token is reissued, remains usable, or expires. Do not record a token refund as a cash refund.

Start with the tickets and terms

A half-point line removes that exact-number push for integer scores. It does not prevent voids, postponements, or different grading rules.

  • Save each receipt, status, accepted market, and settlement explanation.
  • Check rules for postponements, overtime, listed participants, and the specific market.
  • Ask support about an unclear or inconsistent settlement, using the ticket ID.
  • Record the actual outcomes. A simple win/loss calculation cannot resolve a rule mismatch.

The takeaway

The hedge depends on matching settlement rules, not just opposite team names.
