What if a sportsbook only accepts part of your bet?

BreadSync2 min readUpdated How we calculate

The short answer

Check the accepted receipt first. A requested $100 bet is not a $100 bet if only $60 went through. Keep every accepted stake and price fixed, check whether the smaller bet still qualifies for the offer, and calculate only the remaining exposure.

If the first bet was cut down

For a simple two-cash-bet example, $60 accepted at +100 pays $120 if it wins. An exact opposite at -100 needs $60 to match that payout, not the $100 you originally planned.

But if an offer requires a single $100 qualifying bet, accepting $60 may leave you ineligible. Do not count an expected reward until the terms or support confirm it. A smaller stake can change the whole offer calculation, especially with a loss-refund promotion.

If part of the hedge is already accepted

Suppose the first cash bet is $100 at +100. The hedge accepted $40 at -100, but the remaining matching price moved to -150. The existing hedge already returns $80 if that side wins.

If part of the hedge is already accepted
CalculationAmount
Target payout from first bet$200
Payout already covered by $40 at -100$80
Remaining payout gap$120
Additional stake at -150: $120 ÷ (5/3)$72
Total cash staked: $100 + $40 + $72$212
Either normal outcome: $200 minus $212-$12

Do not restart the hedge from zero

The $72 is an additional ticket, not a replacement for the accepted $40. Subtracting stakes from a fresh hedge calculation fails when the prices differ.

This example assumes matching markets, cash funding, no fees, and normal settlement. It explains the exposure, not an instruction to chase the original result. If acceptance or settlement is unclear, verify it before adding another ticket. A cancellation request is not a confirmed cancellation.

The takeaway

The receipt fixes what already exists. Recalculate the rest without erasing it.
