Why does a cash bonus need a different calculation from a bonus bet?
The short answer
A cash-funded bet returns its stake when it wins. A stake-not-returned bonus token does not. That changes the payout the opposite cash bet must cover. Check the actual reward terms; a sportsbook’s label or a single combined balance is not enough.
Same $100 amount, different hedge
Use hypothetical +250 odds on the reward side and -300 on the opposite cash side, with no fees. Assume the cash credit is staked and returned like cash, while the token returns winnings only.
| Funding for the +250 bet | Winning payout | Balanced cash hedge | Pair’s bet profit |
|---|---|---|---|
| $100 cash credit | $350 | $262.50 | -$12.50 |
| $100 bonus token | $250 | $187.50 | +$62.50 |

Do not confuse bet profit with reward value
The cash-credit pair loses $12.50 through the two bets. If the $100 credit was already awarded, that leaves $87.50 of its value after this one pair. It does not prove that all wagering requirements are finished or that $87.50 is withdrawable.
The token had no $100 cash value recorded when issued. Its conversion produces $62.50 cash. Do not add the $100 token face value again as profit.
If you mistakenly use the $187.50 bonus hedge for the cash-funded bet, the outcomes become +$62.50 or -$37.50 in bet profit. The stakes no longer balance. The wrong funding type can create a real difference between results.
Use the terms and the accepted slip
In BreadSync, credited cash bonus belongs in Site Credit; an unused token belongs in Free Bet Bonus. These are tracker field names, not universal sportsbook definitions. Record the reward once, and use the matching calculation before either bet is placed.
- Does a winning bet return the stake?
- Are winnings cash or another restricted reward?
- Is there a remaining wagering requirement?
- Did the accepted bet use the intended funding type?
The takeaway
The returned stake changes the hedge. Classify the reward before calculating or recording it.
Put it into practice
- Check cash and token accounting
See what belongs in each tracker field and when profit appears.
- Compare cash-funded outcomes
Use cash-bet payouts for a returned-stake reward.
- Compare a token conversion
Use winnings-only payouts for a stake-not-returned token.
