Action or listed pitchers: what should match on a baseball hedge?
The short answer
Match the starting-pitcher conditions on both tickets. “Action” generally means a starter change alone does not cancel the moneyline. “Listed pitchers” makes the named starter or starters a condition. Mixing them can leave one bet open after the other is voided.
What happens if a named starter changes?
These are checks to make against each sportsbook’s rules, not universal settlement promises. “Listed” may mean one specific pitcher or both starters must start. Two tickets with that label can still impose different conditions.
| Ticket pairing | Pitcher-change check |
|---|---|
| Action / Action | Check whether both stand and whether either price can be adjusted. |
| Listed / Listed | Check the same named starters, one-pitcher versus both-pitcher requirements, and void conditions. |
| Action / Listed | The listed ticket may void while the Action ticket remains live. |

A refund on one side does not repair the pair
Imagine $100 cash on each team. A pitcher change voids the listed-pitcher ticket and returns its $100. The other $100 Action ticket remains open. If it loses, the pair loses $100: getting one stake back did not cover the other.
With a bonus-funded void, check whether the token is reissued and whether its expiry changes. A returned token is not a $100 cash refund. Record each ticket’s actual status separately.
Action does not mean every interruption is covered
If you cannot confirm compatible conditions, skip the pair before either bet. After a change, verify both receipts before assuming the original hedge still exists.
- Confirm the date, start time, and Game 1 or Game 2 for a doubleheader.
- Match full game versus first five innings and moneyline versus run line or total.
- Compare shortened-game, postponement, resumption, and any repricing rules. These can differ by market within one book.
The takeaway
Match the conditions that keep each ticket alive, not just the opposite team names.
